(A Film About Fatherhood, Football, and Fandom) at The Dreamland featuring a welcome reception in the Harborview Room & Deck with a cash bar, beginning at 6:30pm, open to all ticketholders. The movie screens at 8pm followed by a very special Q&A.You’ll get the opportunity to meet director Donick Cary as well as some of the Native American visiting guests featured in the film. They include: Kenneth Shirley of the Navajo Nation, Dominic Pablo of the Navajo Nation, Nanabah Kadenehii of the Navajo Nation, and Amayah Little Wolf of the Red Lake Nation. Ticket proceeds from the event will benefit both The Dreamland and Musack.org.
Film Synopsis:
Writer producer Donick Cary (The Simpsons, Parks and Recreation, Have a Good Trip, etc.) has been a huge fan of the Washington D.C. pro football team since before he could walk. Passed down from his dad, he was excited to pass the tradition onto his kids. Donick never questioned the team name and or Native American logo until one day, while watching a game, his 9-year-old son, Otis, asked him if it was racist. When Otis suggests they ask Native Americans how they feel, it sends the two on a cross-country journey full of unexpected surprises.
About Donick Cary:
Donick Cary is an Emmy-winning writer and producer who got his start writing for Late Night with David Letterman. He continued working with the show through its move to CBS, serving as both head writer and the “guy in the bear suit” on The Late Show with David Letterman. After five years in late night, Cary moved to The Simpsons, where he served as a co-executive producer for four seasons. He has served the same capacity writing and producing on the series Just Shoot Me, New Girl, Bored to Death, Silicon Valley, Parks and Recreation and AP Bio. In addition to Hail to the Breadsticks!, Cary released his first documentary, Have a Good Trip: Adventures in Psychedelics, which debuted on Netflix on May 11, 2020 and spent its first 30 days in the top ten, peaking at #3 overall in the U.S. In 2007, after a rash of teen suicides in his hometown of Nantucket Island, Donick founded Musack.org, a 501©3 charity that provides musical instruments and classes to under-served youth around the world. Donick serves as the organization's CEO and also serves on the boards of The Nantucket Film Festival, and The Songbirds Foundation.
